
BENJAMIN LEVESQUE

BIO
Benjamin Levesque is a saxophonist and educator based in the Greater Hartford Area. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from the University of Connecticut and recently received his Masters in Music at the Hartt School of Music.​
As a versatile performer, Benjamin has appeared with the UConn Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, UConn Saxophone Quartet, and the Rhombus Saxophone Quartet. At the Hartt School, Benjamin was a member of the Hartt Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and Foot in the Door Ensemble. He’s passionate about chamber music and contemporary works, and in 2022 performed in the world premiere of Liquid Metal for saxophone quartet by award-winning composer Chris Evan Hass.
Benjamin is passionate about expanding the saxophone repertoire and actively collaborates with composers to commission new works. He has worked closely with student composers, resulting in pieces such as Forgotten Memories (2023) by Benjamin Sheehan and Electronic Variations on El Pondito (2023) by Julián Bahamón. In addition, Benjamin has participated in multiple commissioning consortiums, contributing to works including After Orion (2025) and Arc (2025) by Kenneth Fuchs, as well as Tiny Plants in a Vast Expanse (2025) by Karolyn Schubring.
A dedicated educator, Benjamin has taught students of all ages and ability levels, ranging from beginners to adult learners. He has collaborated with numerous schools across Connecticut, including Glastonbury High School, Trumbull High School, and Ledyard Middle School, providing woodwind sectionals and individualized coaching. Benjamin works closely with local band directors to support program success and regularly leads ensemble workshops. At the collegiate level, he has coached chamber groups such as the Rhombus Saxophone Quartet and the Labyrinth Saxophone Quartet, while also maintaining a growing private studio.
Benjamin was the undergraduate winner of the 2022 UConn Concerto Competition, performing André Waignein’s Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone with the UConn Symphony Orchestra. In 2023, he and the UConn Saxophone Quartet were selected to attend the Sinta Quartet Institute, where they studied with the world-renowned Donald Sinta Quartet. Most recently, he won the Hartt School’s Parinov Competition, performing Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone.
He currently performs as the alto saxophonist of the Hierax Quartet, a nationally recognized ensemble that placed 1st in the Hartt Chamber Music Competition, 3rd in the 2025 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the Plowman National Chamber Music Competition.
When he is not playing or teaching the saxophone, Benjamin enjoys going fishing, listening to music, playing the guitar, and spending time with friends and family.
Benjamin has studied with Kendra Emery, Dr. Colette Hall, Paul Evoskovich, Greg Case, and Carrie Koffman.
